Overview

Shahla Rah, M.D., FACG is a gastroenterologist in California. She has a private practice called Digestive Healthcare Center with two locations, one in Newport Beach and one in Irvine. She also sees patients at two locations of Hoag Hospital. As one of the very few female gastroenterologists in the area, Dr. Rah is particularly interested in helping female patients who may feel more at ease with a female practitioner than with male GI doctors or even male OB-GYN doctors. Her patients come to her from all over California seeking colon cancer screening, removal of hemorrhoids especially after child birth, dietary counseling, nutrition, detox and medical weight loss. Dr. Rah also treats irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, ulcers and fatty liver disease. She performs many medical procedures, including non-surgical hemorrhoid removal, Bravo pH monitoring for reflux, colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Dr. Rah is a huge advocate of prevention in gastroenterology and incorporating integrative medicine in her practice. She is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). She also belongs to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), the Orange County Medical Association and the International Foundation of Irritable Bowel Disease. In addition to being a speaking on behalf of several of gastroenterology societies, Dr. Rah also contributes to the medical community as a volunteering member of Rotary International, LIGA Flying Doctors organization and various other overseas programs.

Dr. Shahla Rah is certified by the Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology to practice medicine. She trained with a prestigious GI fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Before graduating, she studied in Pakistan and in England. She completed residency work at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. She has been a doctor for more than 10 years. She is a speaker for the medication Lotronex, used to treat diarrhea in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Currently, she lives with her family in the city of Newport Beach. In her free time, she likes to travel and play golf and tennis.
